A cashier's check, also known as a bank check or officer's check, is a check guaranteed by a bank, drawn on the bank's own funds and signed by a cashier or other bank officer. It is considered more secure than a personal check. In contrast, a certified check is a personal check that has been guaranteed by the bank on which it is drawn, certifying that the funds are available. Both cashier's checks and certified checks are widely accepted for large payments, but cashier's checks are usually preferred due to their higher security.
